Thyme is an essential oil that promotes mental alertness and is known for its natural antibacterial and antifungal properties. Thyme essential oil is often used in natural products for people with acne and eczema.

Thyme essential oil, derived from the Thymus vulgaris plant, is steam distilled from the leaves, stems and flowers. The perennial herb, a member of the mint family, is used in aromatherapy, cooking, potpourri, mouthwashes and elixirs, as well as in ointments.

Due to the essential oil’s antibacterial, anti rheumatic, hypertensive and calming properties, it has many uses that include treating arthritis, insect bites, nausea, fatigue, and even the fungal infection called athlete’s foot. Thyme is also used as an insect repellent to keep mosquitoes, fleas, and moths away.
