Your Skin, Your Gatekeeper
Your skin is a gatekeeper for the rest of your body. It’s your skin’s job to absorb substances that are good, and to protect your insides from injury. Skin is the body’s largest organ, it also works in partnership with your kidneys to remove any harmful substances that could derail your health. Even though your skin may seem impermeable, fluids enter and exit the skin easier than we may think. If you’ve ever suffered from having your skin exposed to a noxious plant such as poison ivy, you’ve experienced how quickly a seemingly miniscule amount of the plants sap can be absorbed and almost as quickly cause the skin to get inflamed and itchy. On the other hand, every time you work up a sweat you’re experiencing fluid flowing in the opposite direction through your skin, transporting toxins and excess salts out of the body.
Gatekeeper – Good News and Bad News
The job of being a gatekeeper, however, can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the gatekeeper allows beneficial substances to be absorbed such as topical medications. It can absorb water and beneficial oils that can help the body’s internal workings run more efficiently. On the other hand, this gatekeeper doesn’t always recognize substances that can be toxic to the rest of the body and allows them in. Such is the case with some man-made chemicals that are very similar to substances found in nature that have been altered or manufactured using artificial means. One example is the commonly used mineral oil. How can using mineral oil on your skin affect the rest of your body?
Mineral Oil – A Harmless Oil?
Your body’s largest organ, works together with the kidneys to rid the body of toxins. However, your skin needs to be able to breathe to perform these functions. Mineral oil can clog pores and make it difficult for our skin to breathe thereby increasing the stress on the underlying body tissues. Mineral oil also attracts needed moisture from cells deep inside your skin. This means that cell renewal is slowed, collagen breaks down, and the connective tissue is destroyed. Normal cell development is slowed down and the skin ages prematurely when skin cells are robbed of air and moisture. One man-made petroleum-based oil can weaken the skin and hinder it from doing one of its primary jobs – protecting the rest of the body. And mineral oil is just one of many substances that we often slather all over our skin not realizing they may be causing us harm instead of good.
Protect Your Skin
A person’s skin is exposed to hundreds of chemicals each day from your scalp to your toes. Thus, it’s very important that what goes on the skin be beneficial and not harmful. Since your skin works so hard to protect you from outside dangers, such as toxins and harmful rays from the sun, we need to be more vigilant about the ingredients in the skin care products we use. Most commercial products contain man-made chemicals, preservatives, and emulsifiers with long names and short explanations of why they’re included. At Natural Yucca Products we aim to help your skin stay healthy and soft, yet protective and strong. Natural Yucca Products combines the benefits of yucca, especially naturally occurring resveratrol and saponins, with the goodness of essential oils and other plant-based ingredients to create products that both protect and pamper your skin. No parabens or petroleum-based ingredients allowed! Just simple goodness from nature for your skin so your skin can continue to do its job efficiently and effectively.
